There’s been an awful lot of rain in the Derby area over the last few days, which became even heavier yesterday.  The flow over the weir at the Adams bridge was rather impressive, but this wasn’t the source of concern…

The corridors linking the two wings at Kedleston Hall have flat roofs and in severe downpours the rain has found its way in through the roof in the past.  With the forecast of yet more rain, I got to help Craig Bannister, House Steward, to move a couple of paintings off the wall to get them out of harm’s way should the worst happen.  It’s really great to be able to help colleagues and learn how some of the collection is protected and looked after – here’s keeping my fingers crossed for a drier few days!
